The Department of Biology was established in the 2012–2013 academic year as the first building block, alongside the Department of Mathematics, in the College of Education, University of Al-Muthanna; the first cohort admitted numbered 45 students. When the department reached its third year, by God's grace, the two departments were separated from the parent College of Education into a new college named the College of Education for Pure Sciences. The department has lecture halls equipped with the latest projection equipment, student laboratories for practical classes alongside theoretical study, and a fully equipped computer laboratory with high-specification computers.
Our ambitions are to admit larger numbers of students, provide more laboratories, and do everything that helps graduate a generation of young people armed with knowledge and able to build their country. May God grant us success in all that is good for the country and its people.
The faculty members who have served as Head of Department are:
1- Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Salman, 2012–2014
2- Dr. Faiq Hassan Ali, 2014–
3. Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadhim Mohammed Saba
