College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Al-Muthanna, Holds the Master's Thesis Defence of Ibtihal Ali Akool

The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Al-Muthanna held the defence of the master's thesis of student Ibtihal Ali Akool, entitled

"Evaluation of the Therapeutic Efficacy of Bougainvillea Nano-Extracts in Mice Infected with Cryptosporidium parvum". The defence took place in the college's Central Hall.

The study aimed to collect, identify and isolate Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts from faecal samples and preserve them under suitable conditions to maintain their viability for use in subsequent laboratory experiments.

Aqueous extracts were prepared from the leaves and bracts of Bougainvillea glabra using environmentally friendly extraction techniques, and then converted into effective nano-extracts by treatment with gold salts.

The parasite was treated with different concentrations of the nano-extracts, and experimental and statistical analyses were carried out to determine the most effective concentration, in order to assess the potential of green nanotechnology as a sustainable and effective means of controlling parasitic infection, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

The researcher recommended expanding the study and use of other medicinal plants in search of natural therapeutic alternatives and reducing reliance on chemical drugs used to treat parasitic infections.

She also recommended extensive, systematic studies to evaluate the antiparasitic efficacy of plant nano-extracts, focusing on determining the optimal therapeutic dose of each nano-extract through in vivo experiments, in order to assess their therapeutic efficiency, toxicity and biological mechanism of action.
